Making with clay is an absorbing outlet for creative expression, and as well as being gratifying, it can be a therapeutic experience!

As with Yoga and Meditation, pottery has come to be viewed as a wellness activity. The mindful act of creating with clay has been shown to have health benefits such as relieving symptoms of depression. We also happen to think it's great fun!

So....whether you have caught the Pottery Bug, or just fancy trying something new, why not sign up for one of our classes?

Clay Club:

Join our Clay Club and with your monthly membership you will receive up to 3 sessions in the studio.

The sessions which are 2 hours long are held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 am and Saturdays at 2pm. These sessions are less structured than our Introduction class format, and although a tutor will always be on hand to advise and assist when required, there will be less tuition and you will be encouraged to work on your own projects and to hone the skills you have learnt. Once you have purchased a membership, please email us with your preferred dates for that month.

All Day Throwing Workshops:

Our full day workshop is held once a month on a Sunday and is a great introduction to

throwing on the potter's wheel. This is an intensive course with focused tuition. You will be taught the basics of throwing, centring, opening up, pulling up and shaping. Perfect for anyone wishing to master the skill of throwing on the wheel! The course includes all materials, the glazing and firing of your 5 best pieces. Lunch and refreshments are included in the price.
This is a small class for only 3 students so book early to avoid disappointment!

Introduction to Pottery Class:

This class, suitable for beginners, is a fun and informative introduction to several methods of making ceramic forms. You will have the opportunity to have a go on the potter's wheel as well as learning some hand-building techniques. We will also discuss decoration of your pieces which might include painting with underglaze colours. Included in the price is the firing of two pieces, usually one hand-built piece and one thrown pot. For any extra pieces you'd like us to fire, we make a small charge of £5 per pot, payable on collection.

Courses:

Our 4 week courses are suitable for beginners and intermediate level. You will be introduced to various ceramic techniques and set a making project which can be worked on over the four sessions. We encourage you to come with ideas, perhaps even bring a sketchbook along...

You will learn to throw on the potter's wheel, gain confidence and fluidity so that by the end of the four weeks you should produce a body of work to be proud of!

We will introduce you to the pleasures of working with clay on the wheel and also hand building with clay, and by experiencing these different ways of working you should discover your natural path.

Firing of Your Pots: Your pieces will require two firings- firstly a biscuit firing in our small electric kiln. Then we will glaze your work and it will go for a final firing in the large gas kiln. For best results we need a full load for the gas kiln so we fire it every 2 months. We hope you feel your pieces of pottery will be worth waiting for and thank you for your patience and understanding.
